Design Optimization using Pro/MECHANICA
Pro/MECHANICA is a linear Finite Element Analysis package that is tightly
integrated within Pro/ENGINEER. A distinct feature of the package is
called Global Sensitivity Study whereby certain dimensions are not assigned
a fixed value but rather a range of values. MECHANICA uses these parameters
to update the geometry of the part after each run before analyzing it
again. This type of analysis is a very powerful tool to identify the
effect of varying the dimensions of design features.
In the following tutorial, the stresses in a beam flexure will be investigated
with the goal to minimize the stress at a given displacement.
The basic steps are as follows:
Step 1 - Part Creation
Step 2 - Creating Design Parameters and Relations
Step 3 - Model Setup
Step 4 - Defining the Analysis
Step 5 - Defining the Global Sensitivity Study
Step 6 - Running the Design Study
Step 7 - Analyzing the Result
